Communique from the Remote Primary Health Care Manuals (RPHCM) governance committee

The RPHCM governance committee remains committed to ensuring the ongoing integrity, relevance, and accessibility of the Remote Primary Health Care Manuals. During the past few weeks, the governance committee has been working with stakeholders in relation to the next editions of the RPHCM.

The governance committee has been made up of representatives from Flinders University, CARPA, CRANAplus and Central Australia Aboriginal Congress (CAAC). Representatives from the editorial committee and AMSANT also participate.

Recent Developments

1.      Flinders University have advised they are stepping down from involvement with the RPHCM. The governance committee acknowledges and thanks Flinders for its longstanding contribution.

2.      The Commonwealth government has confirmed funding for the development of the next edition of the RPHCM, and the Governance Committee is in active communication with the Department to shape the next phase of work. This includes a strong endorsement of the value of the manuals and of the collaborative, place-based governance that underpins them.

3.      The Governance Committee is progressing work to identify a new organisation to lead the next production cycle. Our focus remains on maintaining cultural integrity, clinical quality, and the “by the user, for the user” ethos that has made the RPHCM trusted and practical in remote health settings.

The governance committee is confident that the next edition will continue to serve remote health practitioners and communities with the same quality and cultural responsiveness that has defined the manuals for over three decades.
